Read the passage from The Odyssey - Elpenor.

By night
our ship ran onward toward the Ocean's bourne,
the realm and region of the Men of Winter,
hidden in mist and cloud. Never the flaming
eye of Helios lights on those men
at morning, when he climbs the sky of stars,
nor in descending earthward out of heaven;
ruinous night being rove over those wretches.

Answer 2

For Odysseus and his men, the loss of Helios, the sun, symbolizes a loss of Hope. The desire for an outcome that makes your life better is called hope.

What is the Hope?

Hope is the desire for a result that improves your life in some way. It not only helps to make a difficult situation in the present more bearable, but it also has the potential to enhance our lives in the long run since hoping for a better future inspires action.

Common synonyms of hope include expect and look. While the meaning of all three terms is the same—to "await some occurrence or outcome"—hope conveys less certainty but rather assurance or confidence in the likelihood that one's desires or longings will come true.

When Odysseus and his men touch the holy animals on the island of Thrinacia and consecrate them to the Sun God, Helios, the sun, is lost to them. It portends death and despair for him and the crew

Therefore, The death of Helios, the sun, represents a loss of Hope for Odysseus and his companions. The correct answer is (C), thus.

Answers

Answer:

Question 2:

1. Right now, all applications are being reviewed by the hiring manager.

2. I'm not sure who wrote this memo. I think it was written by my supervisor.

3. Three new programmers were hired last month.

4. Your company is new, right? When was it started?

5. Were you notified about the meeting yesterday?

Question 3:

1. Is that the man who (S) just started working at your office?

Explanation:

Question 2 asks for the use of the passive voice to complete each sentence. In the passive voice, we use the auxiliary "to be" and the main verb in the past participle (example: gone, done, eaten, watched, walked, etc.). To determine in which tense the passive voice must be used, we must pay attention to context clues. For instance, in sentence number 1, "right now" indicates the present continuous tense. In sentence number 3, "last month" indicates the simple past tense. So, we must adjust the passive voice accordingly.

Question 3 asks us to identify if the relative pronoun in the sentence is the subject of the object. A relative pronoun is a word that substitutes a noun and introduces a relative clause. In the sentence we are analyzing here, the relative pronoun "who" substitutes "man" and introduces the clause "just started working at your office." Notice that "who" functions as the subject of the clause it introduces. The verb "started" refers to the relative pronoun. Let's compare this sentence to another one where the relative pronoun is the object, so that we can see the difference:

- Is that the man who just started working at your office?

- Is that the man who you saw at the bar?

In the second sentence, "who" is the object. The verb "saw" refers to "you", which means "you" is the subject of the clause.

But Brutus makes mine greater than they are.

CASSIUS. You love me not.

BRUTUS. I do not like your faults.

CASSIUS. A friendly eye could never see such faults.

BRUTUS. A flatterer’s would not, though they do appear
As huge as high Olympus.

What is the significance of the allusion in this passage connect to the central idea of the passage?

The allusion introduces the idea that, although the two men are very powerful and command armies, they are as honored by the Romans as the gods.
The allusion emphasizes the that the faults that Brutus sees in Cassius are as high as the mountain of the gods.
The allusion to the gods introduces the notion deep commitment the conspirators have to religion

Answers

Answer:

The allusion emphasizes the that the faults that Brutus sees in Cassius are as high as the mountain of the gods.

Explanation:

William Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Julius Caesar" is about the murder of Caesar and the struggle for power of Rome. The play deals with themes of loyalty, good vs. evil, appearance vs. reality, greed, power, etc.

In the given excerpt from the text, we see Cassius and Brutus, the two main conspirators of Caesar's murder, in conversation. Cassius believes that Brutus does not love him and that a friend should ignore his faults. This prompted Brutus to admit that only flatterers would ignore the great faults of Cassius, which, to him are "as huge as high Olympus." Here, the allusion to Mount Olympus emphasizes the faults of Cassius that Brutus finds.

Thus, the correct answer is the third option.

Answer: The allusion emphasizes that the faults that Brutus sees in Cassius are as high as the mountain of the gods.

Hi ^Insert Name^,

I just went to the mall across the street from where I live and got a lot of good stuff.

There was this shop I've never heard of called 'Waltz to Stage' and it was on a clearance. When I tell you the shirts were amazing, I mean it! They even let me have a 'buy one get one free'. Don't worry I bought you three things you might like from there too!

The mall had a fruit shop. It wasn't very fresh because I spotted a few moulds on the fruits. I didn't see anybody going in to buy something from there. I guess it has a bad reputation.

A small shop beside an eatery had a massive store. To be honest, the price does not fit the clothes. Not really a fair price. For a print-out bag, it costs £95.76 and I spent £156, having £58.98 left. It's really a scam.

The mall closed early so I didn't get a chance to buy something from the eatery. I'll try tomorrow!

I hope, when you come back, we get to go to the mall together!

Cheers,

The Dreamer

Dreams are beautiful. They go beyond your imagination and create a world so special that you start living in it. I was a dreamer once, so am I today. I still have the same dream that I once did as a young boy. The problem is that I grew but my dream did not. I always wanted to be an artist. I love colors, shades, the lines, and the smooth texture of canvas which gave life to what seemed to be a lifeless picture.

It all began in a boring math class. I never liked numbers as they never made any sense to me. For me, they never spoke a word. I started making ducks out of 5s and watermelons out of 0s before the math teacher caught me! The first time Mr. Potter warned me. But I could hardly sit through his classes. He caught me drawing once again in his class and that was it. My parents were called. Those days, they believed that painters and artists were drop outs who could not find any job. This was not the end. They told my parents that I would fail miserably if I were to take up arts. This upset them more than me. My father was a reputed professional and he expected me to become like him one day. He never understood why I could see ducks where others saw 5. I tried explaining it to him, but I guess he did not understand it.

“Those lines and shades you talk about do not exist,” he said. I did not understand where these numbers existed. He wanted me to graduate and take up a good job while I wanted to live my dreams. The fight went on. On a few occasions, my precious easel would be broken and thrown away. I had such a difficult time getting them. He was not like this earlier. He always used to get my favorite sketch books when I was young. I guess after that meeting with Mr. Potter, he changed into a different man.

“A few dream to fly, a few to protect the country and a few others to work in a decent job. What if I dream of colors and brushes?” I asked my father when I had the courage to do so. “Fly, if you want to, you will reach the sky. Protect the country, if you want to, you will make me proud. But you cannot take up what the drop outs choose to do. You cannot paint. You cannot make a living out of it,” stood out his words.

I wanted to get into the prestigious Sir Francoire Arts College and learn art, the way experts did. But there seemed to be no way to it. I later studied numbers and took up a job. I still live with the same dream -- To be an artist, to live, and dream like one!
