Answers

Explanation:

A person who leads a group of people

A person who leads a group of people is braver than someone who decides not to follow along with the behavior of a group.

To be brave simply means being 'courageous'. Having the gut to face difficult or challenging situations without being forced to do it.

A leader is known to be a brave person because of his or her position. A leader is faced with a lot of responsibilities and uses wisdom to direct a lot of people in order to achieve a common goal. Taking up responsibility is a bold step and determines the level of bravery of such a person.

[CASSIUS.] A friend should bear his friend’s infirmities,
But Brutus makes mine greater than they are.

BRUTUS. I do not, till you practice them on me.

CASSIUS. You love me not.

BRUTUS. I do not like your faults.

CASSIUS. A friendly eye could never see such faults.

BRUTUS. A flatterer’s would not, though they do appear
As huge as high Olympus.

What is the significance of the allusion in this passage connect to the central idea of the passage?

The allusion introduces the idea that, although the two men are very powerful and command armies, they are as honored by the Romans as the gods.
The allusion emphasizes the that the faults that Brutus sees in Cassius are as high as the mountain of the gods.
The allusion to the gods introduces the notion deep commitment the conspirators have to religion

Answers

Answer:

The allusion emphasizes the that the faults that Brutus sees in Cassius are as high as the mountain of the gods.

Explanation:

William Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Julius Caesar" is about the murder of Caesar and the struggle for power of Rome. The play deals with themes of loyalty, good vs. evil, appearance vs. reality, greed, power, etc.

In the given excerpt from the text, we see Cassius and Brutus, the two main conspirators of Caesar's murder, in conversation. Cassius believes that Brutus does not love him and that a friend should ignore his faults. This prompted Brutus to admit that only flatterers would ignore the great faults of Cassius, which, to him are "as huge as high Olympus." Here, the allusion to Mount Olympus emphasizes the faults of Cassius that Brutus finds.

Thus, the correct answer is the third option.

Answer: The allusion emphasizes that the faults that Brutus sees in Cassius are as high as the mountain of the gods.

The Dreamer

Dreams are beautiful. They go beyond your imagination and create a world so special that you start living in it. I was a dreamer once, so am I today. I still have the same dream that I once did as a young boy. The problem is that I grew but my dream did not. I always wanted to be an artist. I love colors, shades, the lines, and the smooth texture of canvas which gave life to what seemed to be a lifeless picture.

It all began in a boring math class. I never liked numbers as they never made any sense to me. For me, they never spoke a word. I started making ducks out of 5s and watermelons out of 0s before the math teacher caught me! The first time Mr. Potter warned me. But I could hardly sit through his classes. He caught me drawing once again in his class and that was it. My parents were called. Those days, they believed that painters and artists were drop outs who could not find any job. This was not the end. They told my parents that I would fail miserably if I were to take up arts. This upset them more than me. My father was a reputed professional and he expected me to become like him one day. He never understood why I could see ducks where others saw 5. I tried explaining it to him, but I guess he did not understand it.

“Those lines and shades you talk about do not exist,” he said. I did not understand where these numbers existed. He wanted me to graduate and take up a good job while I wanted to live my dreams. The fight went on. On a few occasions, my precious easel would be broken and thrown away. I had such a difficult time getting them. He was not like this earlier. He always used to get my favorite sketch books when I was young. I guess after that meeting with Mr. Potter, he changed into a different man.

“A few dream to fly, a few to protect the country and a few others to work in a decent job. What if I dream of colors and brushes?” I asked my father when I had the courage to do so. “Fly, if you want to, you will reach the sky. Protect the country, if you want to, you will make me proud. But you cannot take up what the drop outs choose to do. You cannot paint. You cannot make a living out of it,” stood out his words.

I wanted to get into the prestigious Sir Francoire Arts College and learn art, the way experts did. But there seemed to be no way to it. I later studied numbers and took up a job. I still live with the same dream -- To be an artist, to live, and dream like one!

Self-Reliance
Ralph Waldo Emerson (adapted excerpt)

For nonconformity the world whips you with its displeasure. And therefore a man must know how to estimate a sour face. The bystanders look askance on him in the public street or in the friend's parlor. If this aversation had its origin in contempt and resistance like his own, he might well go home with a sad countenance; but the sour faces of the multitude, like their sweet faces, have no deep cause, but are put on and off as the wind blows and a newspaper directs. Yet is the discontent of the multitude more formidable than that of the senate and the college. It is easy enough for a firm man who knows the world to brook the rage of the cultivated classes. Their rage is decorous and prudent, for they are timid as being very vulnerable themselves. . .

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said today. "Ah, so you shall be sure to be misunderstood." Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.

Select the correct answer.
Which statement best describes the repeated use of the word consistency in the passage?
A.
Emerson repeats the word consistency to highlight the importance of finishing what one has started.
B.
Emerson repeats the word consistency to emphasize his disapproval of compliant thinking.
C.
Emerson repeats the word consistency to mirror his list of thinkers who were frequently misunderstood.
D.
Emerson repeats the word consistency to express his desire for uniformity in transcendentalism.

Answers

Answer:

B). Emerson repeats the word consistency to emphasize his disapproval of compliant thinking.

Explanation:

According to the given excerpt from Emerson's 'Self-Reliance,' the second statement most adequately explains the reason for which the author repeats the word 'consistency' throughout the passage. It correctly states that the repetition assists in highlighting that he denounces the idea of law-abiding or compliant thinking. He wants people to avoid confirming to these social structures and perpetuating this false consistency rather they should follow their own conscience and have faith in their own selves. Thus, option B is the correct answer.

Answer:

B.

Emerson repeats the word consistency to emphasize his disapproval of compliant thinking.

Answer:

Washington was established as the capital of the United States as the result of a compromise following seven years of negotiation by members of the U.S.

Explanation:

Washington was established as the capital of the United States as the result of a compromise following seven years of negotiation by members of the U.S. Congress as they tried to define the concept of a “federal enclave.” On July 17, 1790, Congress passed the Residence Act, which created a permanent seat for the federal government. George Washington, the country’s first president (1789–97), carefully chose the site, which is on the Potomac River’s navigation head (to accommodate oceangoing ships), and near two well-established colonial port cities, George Town (now Georgetown, a section of the city of Washington) and Alexandria, Va. This location bridged the Northern and Southern states, but Washington called it “the gateway to the interior” because he hoped it would also serve to economically bind the Western territories to the Eastern Seaboard—the Tidewater and the Piedmont regions—and thereby secure the allegiance of the frontier to the new country.

The city was named for George Washington, the first president of the United States and a Founding Father, and the federal district is named after Columbia, a female personification of the nation.
